Palladium to play May's Tuck Shop

Click to enlarge imageThe Tuck Shop Clubnight is a monthly night aimed at bringing upcoming bands to the South West (the first Tuesday of the month at L2 in Truro and the day after at the Plymouth Student Uni) and has recently featured acts hot indie acts The Courteeners and The Young Knives. Promoters SW1 have previously bought top acts such as The Kaiser Chiefs and The Kooks to Cornwall before anyone had heard of them, and they are hoping that audiences will trust them enough to come along even if they're not aware of the headline act at the time of the show. The aim is to include a local opener whenever possible, and the nights also feature local djs and a tuck shop of retro sweeties with flying saucers and curly wurlies, plus the chance to win free entry to next months' show if you pick the sweetie bag with the golden ticket! One of the few nights open to under 18s (both venues have an over 16s license), it's a rare opportunity to see bands of this calibre in a small clubnight setting.

Following the regrettable cancellation of April's Tuck Shop, the clubnight is back with a vengeance in May. Featuring Palladium, who are currently on tour with The Kooks, plus tour support local openers as yet to be confirmed, the night looks set to be another corker.

With their debut album produced in LA by Tony Hoffer (Beck, The Kooks), the band got together a couple of years back, acquaintances through grueling tours on the session musician circuit. Sporting tweed, flowery shirts and (rather incongruously) golf visors on occasion, the band delight in breaking rules and defying pigeonholing, making music that is “epic, joyful and ludicrous”.

A four-piece of ludicrously talented musicians, who look like they got lost in a fancy dress cupboard, delivering a barrage of positive vibes. Bringing to mind things that you love as well as things that might make you feel rather uneasy: Pink Floyd, The Police, Fleetwood Mac's 'Tango In The Night', Steely Dan, Toto, Stevie Wonder, Hall & Oates and The Who in the early 70s.

Palladium will play at the Tuck Shop Clubnights on May 6th at L2, Truro, May 7th at the Plymouth Student Uni) Tickets £7 (stbf, over 16s ID may be required) available from www.seetickets.com, 08712200260, Sneaky Peanut in Truro and Falmouth and Plymouth Student Union for the Plymouth show only.
