Rip Curl Boardmasters Unleashed Announce A Stunning Line-Up!
The organisers of Newquay's top music event, The Ripcurl Boardmasters Unleashed Music Festival, have announced several further acts for the two day extravaganza which is to take place on the 4th and 5th August overlooking Watergate Bay in Newquay.
Previously announced headliners Feeder and Starsailor (performing on the Friday and Saturday respectively) are to be complimented by a stunning line-up of international acts across the two day festival, which is in its second year.
Just announced for the Friday night are hotly tipped youngsters The Automatic who have burst onto the scene this year. The band's latest single "Monster" (Radio 1's Jo Whiley recent record of the week) is a fantastic showcase of their talent and follows fast on the heels of their previous two songs, which were both acclaimed by music mag NME. The band are currently one of the headline acts for May's NME New Music tour and are also confirmed for many of the big summer festivals including T In The Park and Reading/Leeds festival.
Also appearing on Saturday are ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra), who recently supported college buddy Jack Johnson on his UK tour dates. With their soulful Californian style and feel-good danceable grooves, the band are the golden child of the US West Coast's buzzing underground scene, with a sound dubbed by some as "sex-music boogaloo". A true hybrid of sun-soaked funk, jazz and pop all blended and masterfully delivered by top musicians with a quite apparent passion for live performance, ALO promise to deliver a feel-good vibe to their audience; "we want to create a happy, uplifting environment - a safe place for the audience to feel free to be themselves" says keyboardist/vocalist Zach Gill.
One of the hottest acts around at the moment, Breaks Co-Op whose first UK single 'The Other Side', due for release later this month, will also be joining headliners STARSAILOR on the Saturday line-up. The band who are the creative culmination of the instrumental studio meanderings of Hamish Clark and Radio 1's Zane Lowe, winningly combined with the sumptuous vocals of Andy Lovegrove, have produced an album 'The Sound Inside' which is set to become the soundtrack to everyone's summer. With its subtle combination of earthy electronica, folk-rock and a passionate mastery of harmony, a gorgeous breeziness and some of the most touching lyrics around, this band will make you feel better about the world and everything in it. You can check out the band on TOTP's on May 28th!
Friday's night's Unleashed headliners Feeder celebrated their 18th Top 40 hit with "Lost & Found" last week as the highest new entry into the charts. The single is taken from Feeder's forthcoming compilation album, the eagerly anticipated "The Singles", which is out on Monday 15th May. The Singles, is Feeder's first album collecting their works so far in their career and features 16 of their top UK 40 hit singles.
Further acts will be announced in the coming weeks, which including some local bands who will feature amongst the musical giants on the open air stage at the stunning cliff top location. Unleashed is the culmination of a week-long programme of events at the Ripcurl Boardmasters, Europe's biggest action sports festival which starts on 31st July until 6th August.
The festival will house a larger music scene this year with a varied programme of live music and DJs to be announced shortly. For more information on all the events visit the website www.ripcurlboardmasters.com.
